Born in Santiago, Chilli, Jorge Jara graduated with a degree in architecture at the university of Valparaiso. He has been working as a costume designer for film, theatre and musical theatre since 1975.
He has designed costumes for many great opera houses around the world such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Vienna, Leipzig, Berlin, Stuttgart, Zurich, Lyon, Barcelona, Tokyo, Sydney,… And has worked with directors like Philippe Sireuil, Luc Bondy, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Peter Mussbach, Pierre Audi,…
Some of the operas he designed costumes for include Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Mozart’s Titus, Menotti’s Der Konsul, Berg’s Lulu, Puccini’s La Bohème, Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and L’Heure espagnole, Donizetti’s La Favorita, Mozart’s Idomeneo, Offenbachs Orphée aux Enfers,…
