Maria Cristina Mazzavillani Muti

Born in Ravenna, Cristina Muti studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. She made her operatic debut in L’Osteria di Marechiaro by Paisiello at the Teatro dell’Arte in Milan.
In 1990 she started the “Ravenna Festival”, an international festival of opera and classical music.
In 2001 she staged the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi, which was very well received because of the use of some innovative multimedia technologies. Her following production was Il Trovatore by Verdi.
She was awarded the title of Grand’Ufficiale al Merito of the Italian Republic by the President of the Italian Republic in 2005.
In 2008 she directed La Traviata by Verdi, which also received unanimous public and critical acclaim.
